Mrs J T Lelond Dies After Long Illness at Virden

Mrs J T Lelond formerly Rosa May Boyce died Saturday after a lengthy illness in Virden hospital. Funeral held at MinIo ta United Church with Rev C A Geddes officiating. Burial in Minista Cemetery. Survived by five sons, one daughter, a brother, two sisters and fourteen grandchildren. A son died in infancy, another Lyall was killed in World War II.

Trailer Classrooms Debut In Manitoba Caravan

A convoy of four mobile trailer classrooms arrives in Winnipeg on March 22 marking Manitoba’s first use of trailers as portable schools. Each 50 by 14 foot unit will house 39 students with teacherage facilities. two trailers head to Grand Rapids, Wanipigow, and The Pas, then Lynn Lake and Brocket by rail and tractor.

Planting a Lake Harvest 100 Million Whitefish Eggs

Fishery officers plant 100 million whitefish eggs in Lake Winnipeg using a Manitoba Government Air Services Otter. Eggs from Clearwater Lake Spawn Camp are flown to the Dauphin River Hatchery and incubated. Before hatch, fertile eggs are packed and flown to planting grounds. holes are drilled four feet through the ice with a power auger, and 100,000 eggs are planted in each.
