Reginald M. Oliver 75 Printer and Community Leader
Reginald M. Oliver, a Miniota Herald printer and publisher for over four decades, died suddenly March 24 1964 at his Transcona residence while shovelling snow. He was born December 9 1888 in Shoreditch England and served in the 79th Battalion Army Band. He is survived by wife Lillian two daughters Ruth and Shirley and a son Lloyd. He was active in the Legion Red Cross and Poppy Fund and played organ and piano in church.

John Norrie Entered into Rest in Crandall
John Norrie a longtime Crandall resident died suddenly in Vancouver on March 21 while visiting his sons Charles and Frank. Funeral held March 26 at Crandall United Church with Legion members as flower bearers. Survived by six sons three daughters and 27 grandchildren. wife predeceased in 1958 and a son George was killed in World War II.

On March 21 Mr and Mrs Wil bert Irwin marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their Hamiota home. Attending were their children and grandchildren from Arrow River Isabella Oak River and Shoal Lake. An open house for friends will be held later. greetings came from Prime Minister Pearson and other dignitaries.

Martin John Powell born May 8 1901 at Beulah Manitoba died recently and was laid to rest in the family plot at Miniota United Church. Rev John G Sloan officiated the March 25 service with burial in Miniota. He lived most of his life in Miniota and was a farmer and active member of Miniota United Church.

Longtime municipal school board member dies after service term
Obituary notes a local leader who served a third term on the municipal school board and took part in youth activities including hockey and baseball. He chaired the 4-H Potato Club for four years and belonged to the Boy Scout Committee, with interests in the Red Cross and Curling. He married Ethel Towler in 1938 and is survived by his wife, three sons, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held with honorary and active pallbearers and the School Board attending in a body. McConnell Bros. Funeral Home managed arrangements.
