Farm Fertilizers Still a Good Buy in Manitoba

Phosphorus and nitrogen fertilizers can yield three to six times cost through higher harvests says Dr. R W Hedlin head of Manitoba University soil science. Experiments show 20 c per lb phosphorus returns 75 to 93 c per lb in wheat yields with 20 lb raising 5.3 bushels per acre and 60 lb raising 6.5 bushels. Barley and oats also show strong responses.

Optimizing Fertilizer Use for Wheat and Barley

Field trials show average notes of 65 and 77 cents per pound with application rates of 30 and 20 pounds per acre. Optimum amounts vary by field with diminishing returns beyond that point. Nitrogen yields $1.16 per pound on wheat and 70 cents on barley, best when placed near the seed at seeding. broadcasting in fall gives the lowest response. Bridal Shower Draws Granddaughter’s Winnipeg Wedding

Mrs S Barnes travels to Winnipeg for a week to attend her granddaughter’s bridal shower in anticipation of a wedding set for April 24 in Winnipeg. Mrs F Bardwell hosts Friday visitors for her birthday, including Allan Armitage and Keith Armitage families from Miniota, Birtle’s Curtis family, and neighbours. Hazel Hatton of Decker visited her mother Elsie Gregory this past week.
