The National Convention at Cincinnati on the 7th ballot nominated James Buchanan of Pennsylvania for President, with strong Southern support and pro slavery pledges regarding Kansas. On the vice presidential side J C Baxokeveree was named, as the balloting shifted and Pierce faded from contention.
