The Wil low Springstown Waldwick line begins operation with messages from Joseph Gordon's home eight miles away. The line runs from the city to Defiance in LaFayette county then to the village of Waldwick. Officers elected: President Joseph Whitford Vice President John Jackson Secretary Roy Gordon Treasurer Wm Harford Assistant Director R Penhallegon Jr. The board thanks R J Penhallegon Jr for guidance in construction. A Prohibition party convention is set for Dodgeville January 22 1902 to elect delegates. A public meeting will follow with Fred EK Britten of Michigan speaking at Mineral Point city hall January 21.
Mr Frank Bottoms reports good times during a visit to Conway Indiana amid strong demand for farm lands at 50 to 75 dollars per acre. McKinley memorial fund subscriptions received at Eastman and Meserole drug store with a souvenir certificate for donors from ten cents up. Mr C R Bridgeman of Darlington sustained rib and sternum fractures after a fall from a barn loft but is recovering. John Barleycorn appearances in two or three saloons last Saturday caused minor fracas with some faces missing from streets. Mrs Lawrence Close returned to Mankato Minnesota after visiting her bereaved aunt Mrs John Penballegon. Darlington council reaffirms water supply for a new button factory, which will pump from Pecatonica river. John Perry of Kendalltown injured cutting wood at Carl Fraz’s place, belt pulled into a circular saw, resulting in severe head wound and two broken arms.
In the home of John Cridge, the property burned entirely on Tuesday evening leaving the family with no furniture or clothing. The fire, whose cause is unknown, overwhelmed the structure beyond the waterworks limit and the fire company could not save any of it. Insurance figures suggest a loss far above policy coverage. The family seeks shelter from neighbors while local businessman Henry Kramer, formerly from Dodgeville, expands his meat market at the old stand next to Ap pel's barber shop with Ben Jacka as his first assistant. D C Jacka shifts to Wisconsin House management.
The M E Church announces Sunday morning sermon on "The Primitive Church" and an evening message "What must I do to be saved" with other services as usual for the day and week. Maple City Soap ad promotes washing everything snow white.
Veterans feel lonesome when they visit Hotel Meehan Arlington and are not saluted by Comrade John who has retired from the proprietorship of the house.
Mr 8 F Guttenstein and bride returned from Chicago to begin housekeeping in a cottage when a dispatch summoned them to Chicago for the bride’s grandmother. Several local residents face illness and mental health concerns while relatives comfort the family. Also notice of hospital admission and a funeral tone run through the piece amid local frugal advertising. Bulk pickles and assorted preserves advertised at Bendits Grocery.
