The Tribune announces its first page will cover Local matters with advertisements, excluding professional cards, charged at fifty percent advance on ordinary rates. No large cuts will be allowed on this page at any rates.
The notice promotes a $1.25 yearly advance for new subscribers through April 1, 1871, with old subscribers paying by Jan 1, 1870. It warns against outside printers, touts local printing at same prices, and highlights various local items from Dodgeville and Iowa County including mining, fever reports, literary promotions, and community updates.
An 19th century notice highlights T Osborne and Craver offering bargains in ready-made clothing hats and dry goods. Gundelfinger promotes fine neckties collars and gents furnishing goods opposite the post office. Teasdale sells Richardson Boots and Shoes with low prices. Deller advertises furs and Averion auction bills urge City Store shopping.
Advertisements offer thirty day bids for the rock church wood-work in Highland village with plans at Rev. Trant’s residence. Other notices promote winter bargains at Dellers with chinchillas and beavers, Cartwrights selling Re Whitby jet sets, Viatt flour at 2.25 per hundred, and various shop offers on braces, rubber goods, perfumery and wringers. Lexi starts February 22 and ends March ? of this year.
A Mississippi steamer en route from New Orleans to Louisville exploded its boiler near Memphis, caught fire, and sank near Island No. 40. Reports say up to a hundred lives may be lost.

Mrs Jennifer Bennett aged 80 years died at her son Matthew Bennett’s residence in Dodgeville on January bijet after years of illness. A Cornwall England native, she moved to Iowa County with her husband in 1847 and lived there most of her life. Known for 60 years of Christian faith she lingered in bed for months before death with strong belief in future reward.
