Save Seed Corn Tips From Iowa State College
Iowa State College at Ames issues guidance to County Superintendents and schools on saving and caring for seed corn. Gather ears before October, pick well ripened ears from the best stalks, and hang them to dry in a ventilated attic. Tie ears into strings, hang, and avoid drying indoors or with artificial heat. Keep windows open on warm days, store seed well, and gather two to three times excess seed. Do not rely on sporadic good ears. Save it all now.
