Mrs. W. M. Plimpton visits Omaha Friday. Numerous locals travel, visit relatives, and attend events across Iowa and Nebraska, with names including F. J. Wallace, W. B. Oaks, Sidener, Lila Anderson, D. T. Musselman, Miss Lea Watson, Myrtle Williams, KR H. Daniel, George Townsley, Mrs. Woodruff, Mrs. Briggs, and many others. Travel to Des Moines, Hot Springs, Plattsmouth, Denver, and Chicago noted. Community life includes millinery, horticultural delegates, and illness and returns. A few items mention Lake or county towns and state institutions.
The County Board will hold a special session next Monday to decide who controls work on the Keg Creek ditch near Glenwood. A. Mayberry surveys property owners for damage claims to right of way while Auditor Agan processes a new ditch petition for a joint waterway draining Lake Waubonsie. Mills county would open the old ditch from Lyons township section 21 toward the lake, Fremont county to run a southwest ditch to the river, with W. Co. Swarts named as feasibility commissioner. R. H. Shay Marion Kerney and Dean were appointed to repair the Watkins ditch.
Mills County endured a wintry spell with snow flurries Sunday night and heavy frosts across the north, extending cold into the Mississippi region. Overcoats and fires rose in demand as a light frost Tuesday morning caused little damage, while a predicted heavy freeze was saved by a late cloud and light showers. Farther west Nebraska suffered great frost damage as warmer weather appears likely now.
Newborns announced for Center township Folsom Glenwood Rawles township and nearby homes. Dates include Thursday through Saturday with four girls and two boys plus a new infant at Lou Dunn’s home. Frank Bromley welcomed a baby girl companion to a son born earlier.
J. P. Caldwell reports a pestiferous insect destroying timber on his farm south of the Institution. In one 40-acre block north of Glenwood about half the trees are killed. The insect resembles a katydid and has a one inch long stinger used to inject poison two feet above ground, capable of killing a good-sized tree from a single bite.
J D Pugsley, Harrison county supervisor tried in Glenwood for malfeasance, has dropped his $50,000 damage suit brought after acquittal against parties in Harrison county including editors of the Logan Nucleus and the Observer. Last week the grand jury indicted H H McKinney, former Harrison county treasurer, for an $85,774 shortage in his accounts.
AGAIN D. Le Heinsheim announces a major fall sales push claiming Mills County’s best deals. The ad touts lower prices across goods like outing flannel in multiple colors and patterns as the store markets itself as Iowa’s greatest interior store to boost business across Mills and adjoining counties.
