May Day Celebration and Field Meet at Grenwood Schools

The May Day celebration featured a large parade by Third Ward and High schools, a reception by West Ward pupils, and a full sports program on West Ward grounds. Events included 50 and 100 yard dashes, 220 yard relays, chariot races, pole vault, running high and broad jumps, potato races, bean bag shooting, and Maypole dances with red blue and white ribbons for winners. Dr. Donelan, Dr. Mogridge, Dwight Buffington, Walter Lewis, and Maurice Lewis served as starters and judges. spectators praised the well suited grounds and enjoyed a lively afternoon.

Decoration Day Service in Glenwood May 20

A special program for Decoration Day is planned in Glenwood. The G A R and W R C have organized a morning procession from 10 o’clock around the square to the cemetery with graves to be decorated. Afternoon events follow at the opera house at 2 PM with Dr. George A Hay delivering the memorial address. Local businesses are asked to close 10 to 12 and 2 to 4:30.

Glenwood Park Opens With Festivities on Friday

Glenwood Park plans a formal opening Friday evening featuring fireworks and music. The park is in fine shape, the lake is full, and grounds are green. A new road along the east side of the lake will be open to autos and horse vehicles, while the west path is for pedestrians. Fishing begins Monday with abundant two inch bullheads. reports on bass and crappies are missing. Sam King, the caretaker, notes many big bullheads are present.
