An inspector in the stock yards, Dick Wilson, recalls his past as a horse thief. He narrates a wild 214 head cattle raid with Jim Mulhally and others, the disguises of Azur Cupid and wings, a perilous long ride across mountains, and a brushes with a traveling theater and a Norwegian hay festival. The tale ends with a wary sheriff and a warning that the raid yielded only forty head.
