Glenwood News Briefs Reflect Local Happenings

Deaths Ranging Across Glenwood Area

The Glenwood community notes the death of three year old Florence Alexander after a two month illness from nervous trouble. Richard Pettinger’s remains from Orange California arrive for a Glenwood funeral. Harriet Mills dies in Kansas City after cancer. she was a pioneer Glenwood schoolteacher aged 68. An infant son of Bert Gully of Malvern dies at two months thirteen days. George Worrester, once a Mills County pioneer from Emerson, dies at his Flastings Nebraska home.

Obituary: George McKeen Dies at 70 in Silver City

George McKeen died at his home in Silver City on Sunday morning March 17 at age 70 after a six year illness. He was born in Maine and moved with his parents to Illinois at age 1, enlisted in the Union Army in 1861, and spent time in Confederate prison. He married Mary A. Hale of Mahaska County in 1870, lived in Mills County since 1890, and is survived by a widow, a daughter Mae Manter of Fremont Nebraska, and a sister. Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Silver City with Rev. A F B Conrey officiating and ten old soldiers as pallbearers.
