Storm Devastation Across Lyons Townships and Nearby Areas
A severe storm on Saturday caused widespread flooding and hail across Waubonsie and Egypt, with Happy Hollow in Buckingham’s farm area taking the hardest hit. Dams and fences were washed away, crops destroyed, and several farms reported heavy losses including A. J. Buckingham and F. M. Macdford. In Thurman, the town flooded, horses drowned, and eight inches of rain was recorded. Later, a violent altercation between Charles Powell Haw and Will West near Platteville led to injuries. Powell was captured and later acquitted in court after a tense boundary dispute escalated into violence.
