Taft Men Elect Root Chairman at National Convention
In Chicago on June 19 Taft forces elected Senator Root of New York as temporary chairman after five hours of roll call amid Roosevelt opposition. Root won 558 to 402 over Governor McGovern with 14 scattering votes and 4 not voting.
