Army Worms Reported In Mills County Fields
The Tribune notes a worm damaging alfalfa and crops in Mills County. Investigations align it with army worm traits, though some say it resembles a cut worm. Eggs hatch in white webs. moth lays eggs in leaves and debris along fences and creekbeds. Prevent spread by clearing rubbish, burning debris, and exposing nests on hot days. Natural enemies include beetles, ants, fires, and Tachina flies. Ames confirms a cut worm with similar breeding habits and notes a parasitic fly may curb damage, advising field examination before spraying.
