Uncalled letters will be sent to the Chicago dead letter office.
Nine Mills county men applied for mechanical service positions at Ames Iowa City and Des Moines but none were accepted. The notice records the rejection of all applications and lists the cities involved and the scope of the job postings.
An ad invites readers undecided on windmills to call for the Aermotor model with auto effect and no tower climbing. It promotes upgrading old towers with a new head, lists Woodmansee, Monitor, and Baker mills, and offers pump, pump jack, gas engine sales, repairs, wall digging, wells, cisterns, spouting, and soldering. The state quota of six hundred was filled before the Mills boys could be admitted. The reason given was that the number was secured from counties and districts with the largest number of registrants in Class 1. This non acceptance disappoints as the Mills men sought mechanical work, though their registrant status remains unchanged. Of the quota, 104 were taken from Des Moines and Polk county.
Advertising plan aimed at Indianapolis doctors backfired as mailed booklets woke physicians at 1 a.m. They tore up and discarded the material, returning to sleep amid groans and curses. The piece mocks the failed campaign and notes the wasted money on printing and postage.
