Storm Squires Heavy Cattle Loss Near Hastings
A storm last Friday night or early Saturday killed 17 head of two year old steers owned by J B Wickel near Mud Creek north of Hastings. Lightning struck a port and traveled along a wire causing the cattle to fall in a line. Wickel had no insurance and values at about 75 dollars per head. Other Mills County stock losses include a colt a cow two cows and a heifer a cow killed near Mineola a horse and 17 head of cattle from J B Fieckel southwest of Henderson.

Walter Jakobs, a 15 year old German citizen and farm hand in Douglas County, sues Samuel Schoening for 20500 in the United States district court in Council Bluffs. Night carnival ride ends in car stuck in ditch near Malvern
A group from Malvern left the carnival in a Studebaker 35 with electric lights. The headlights failed near the second viaduct, wheels sank in soft road, and the car ended tipped in a roadside ditch.
