Potato Bugs Insect Life Cycle and Control

Farmers ask about potato bugs appearing in April or May. The pest begins as eggs laid on leaf undersides, about 500 per month, hatching into larvae that eat potato leaves for three weeks, then become pupae in the soil and emerge as beetles to repeat the cycle. Control guidance notes tackling the larvae stage with arsenate before damage accumulates.
