Friday night a meeting reviewed Seth Kean’s survey for the Keg Creek ditch near Glenwood. The committee approved the plan to proceed under Iowa drainage law, with Mike Miller A Mayberry and E B Bogart forming a special committee to file a petition with the Board of Supervisors. The district foresees railroad company support and funding via bonds paid from assessments.

Ringling Brothers Circus visits Glenwood next Wednesday July 22 offering a large show with 1280 staff, 640 horses, 85 double-length cars and a 40-elephant menagerie. parades at 10 and performances at 2, a 68-stop pipe organ, and notable animals including Baby Boo the baby elephant and a rare rhinoceros.
In Glenwood the week centers on temperance sentiment as liquor trials proceed Monday and Tuesday. Frank W. Emerson, Kansas governor race candidate, argues for repeal of 1862 internal revenue taxes on liquor and says the liquor question must be solved nationally. He criticizes state town discrepancies with federal law and interstate shipments of liquor via express and railroad firms.
Surveyors revisited the Glenwood to Council Bluffs corridor to study a new line route. Starting at Reasoner schoolhouse two miles east they traced a path south of town near the canning factory, then southwest toward Pacific Junction and north to Council Bluffs along river bluffs. The plan includes Pacific Junction, Pacific City and Wolsom, aiming for a level grade to reduce construction costs versus the earlier hill route.
Paul Phelps, a year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Phelps of Malvern, died after a Fourth of July accident. Shooting blank cartridges caused wadding from a shell to wound his left hand, leading to infection and lockjaw. He died Tuesday noon after funeral services were held yesterday afternoon. The family and friends extend sympathy.
Mr and Mrs A J Davidson thank friends for kind attention and sympathy after the death of their son. The family recalls the comforting words and lingering kindness during their hour of sorrow.
