A close Friday night bowing contest saw Letert's Reliables edge the Bin Splitters by three pins in a game where Seis delivered a standout performance and Council will decide the next match.
Yostmaster RC White urges rural patrons to prepay postage and avoid loose coins in boxes to prevent delays for rural carriers. He recommends small wood or tin cups in mail boxes for coins and notes the excellent family magazine published in New York City.
Clyde and Norman Genung hosted a 20 guest farewell dinner at Edwards home in informal style with no toasts, followed by a smoker. Mrs Genung and four young ladies assisted. Edwards will wed Carrie Cook in Aurora Illinois at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Glenwood high school held a two day picture exhibition that drew good attendance though short of teachers and scholars’ hopes. Tickets sold for 48.50 with about 5 deducted for expenses to buy new pictures for the grade rooms. Miss Smith’s scholars sold the most tickets and earned an extra picture. Donations totaled 2 with 32 remaining from last year’s commencement profits funding seven new pictures. A box social at the school house Friday night aims to raise funds for frames.
A large group from Mills county left Malvern Tuesday night on a six day sight seeing and land exploring trip to Las Vegas New Mexico aboard a special Pullman with dining car. The party includes W N Salyers C W and HW Facrett Arthur and Barton Tradley J N Nosekable TE C Kayton A P Reeve G W Conrad John Salmons J TH Bachelor and son J A Bachelor and W P Wortman.
A Malvern man quit chewing tobacco after a harrowing moment with a plug bite. He could not bite through the plug and found a greasy foul smelling black stub of a finger nail in the chew, evidently from someone else. He stopped chewing immediately.
Should be Tried L. E. Geil displays a device for testing seed corn in his Glenwood harness store window, following Iowa Agricultural College guidance. No Mills county farmers have yet tried it, though many progressive corn growers overlook the method. See tester illustrations in the advertisement.
Mills County drew major premiums at Red Oak in a corn show with 16 participants. Despite enrollment dipping to 285, the display impressed and auction prices rose to 700, about 130 more than last year, with detailed by-township winners and class prizes across C, D, GQ, HI, I concepts and gear awarded to top growers.
Fire Friday night destroyed George King and Mrs Lizzie Adams home in Scribner Nebraska valued at 700 dollars with no insurance. King saved about half his household goods though damaged. Iris Joss reportedly 8800 uninsured. Cause believed to be a defective flue.
R W Stewart from the Pacific Junction area reports a bay mare stolen from his pasture Sunday night. The blind ten year old horse weighed about 1500 pounds and was traced north for two miles before the trail went cold. No trace has been found.
I. C. Coolbaugh, longtime Hamburg resident of 49 years, retired from leading church choirs on his 80th birthday two years ago. The Tribune notes all the county news and a light exchange about a photo in a brief local item.
