Glenwood Declamatory Contest Impresses Audience

Ten Glenwood high pupils displayed oratorical skill at the annual declamatory contest held in the opera house. Wred Dean won the oratorical class with Wayne Bogart second. Corinne Record led the dramatic class with David Barnett second. Helen Fleming topped the humorous class with Jessie Wright second. Fred Dean earned the highest points and will represent Glenwood at district and Tabor fairs. Record proceeds to Tabor. Judges included Prof Grason, Dr Sidwell, and Rev Graves. music by local students and a duet by Prof Morgan and Miss Mabel Gibbs.

Murphy Leads Denver Apple Show With 146 Varieties

J W Murphy of Murphy at Denver reports the Denver apple show as the largest outside the St Louis fair. Nine exhibits arrived in carload lots. He won 8 firsts 10 seconds and 6 thirds from 1640 plate entries. Cash winnings totaled 100 dollars and prizes included 150 Stark Bros apple trees. He topped Duchess Wealthy and Pippin and Maiden Blush for several honors. He earned caps for best individual display and best state display outside Colorado.

Special Meetings Begin in Glenwood Churches

Sunday night gatherings at the Glenwood Methodist church united with the Congregational church. Monday night Rev. A. R. Grant of Manilla Methodist preached his first sermon and will assist Pastor Graves. A chorus led by Z. A. Bower with J. O. Chamberlin, E. V. Rhoades, Georgia Genung, and Nellie Gooder enhances the services. Afternoon meetings start Wednesday at 2:30.

Mills County Hog Prices Set New High at South Omaha

A Mills County shipment of 60 hogs averaging 339 pounds sold for $8.70 per hundredweight at the South Omaha stockyards last Friday, the highest price yet for this market. Mills County farmers again led with top pork prices as Queen Mills noted strong production.
