Glenwood Boy in Navy Transfer to Asiatic Squadron

Glenwood native and Mills County lad Guy Crosier, six years in the U S Navy, moves from the Cash Partie squadron to the Asiatic squadron. He serves as chief of a branch aboard the U S Gunboat Elena under Shanghai. In a letter dated January 8 from Shanghai, icy nights and shore snow are described. Crosier recalls his single laugh since enlistment after his friend Grant Phipps was killed at Telkamah Ely.

Mills County Board Proceedings on Drainage Plan February 1917

Mills County Board of Supervisors meets in regular session at Auditors Office on February 21 1917 with HolL Cheyney presiding and Labin Plumer absent. County Board Advances Damages Claims and Awards Contracts

The Auditor is ordered to appoint a committee to appraise damages from the proposed district and report by March 1, 1917, with adjournment to March 7, 1914. A vacancy in the County Coroner’s Office is filled by H. C. Yates with a $500 bond. Bills for road and bridge work are approved. Bids for lumber and culverts are awarded to Iowa Pure Iron Co, Wilson Concrete Co, Standard Bridge Co, J Wallace Lumber Co, and others. The board adjourns to February 27, 1917.
