Snowbound Train Stranded by Massive Drift Near Nelphia

A passenger train of the Elmira Cortland & Northern trailed into a monster snowdrift a half mile north of Nelphia station and became stuck. Passengers faced a panic as cars settled, an engine vanished into drifts, and rescue crews from Delphi dug out the train. It took six hours to free the cars as workers with shovels and plows cleared the three quarter mile drift while passengers passed time with songs from Cazenovia Seminary girls and refreshments from nearby farms.

Rev Dr Charles Elliott of Chicago died in Easton Pennsylvania yesterday from grip. Born in Scotland on March 15 1815 he graduated Lafayette College in 1840 and taught Hebrew there for the last decade spending three months each year in Easton. He was a professor at Miami University Oxford Ohio from 1840s to 1863 and at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary Chicago 1863 to 1883. He authored numerous biblical works.
