Winkler and Howe form Dunreath coal mining company

A. H. Winkler and J. H. Howe organize the Dunreath Coal Mining Company in Des Moines with $50,000 capital and $40,000 paid-in stock. Headquarters at Des Moines. Mine at Dunreath, 26 miles east on the Wabash road. 80 acres owned, 500 acres leased, about 40 men employed. Coal sold in Des Moines at lump 2.50, mine run 2.25, screenings 1.00 per ton.
