Glenwood community notes report visitors from Malvern Red Oak Omaha and Council Bluffs. local church missionary societies meet Feb 5 while Ames Short Course closes with praise. several residents travel for family events and sales.
New lot of sewing machines described as best on the market with low prices. Also offering repair services and some machines for rent.
Two events are set for Glenwood Armory on Thursday night Feb 5 featuring a playful pigskin drop with two youth teams aiding the stunt. First bout pairs Co T Glenwood and og F Willis, second matches Glenwood High ex High School girls in a lighthearted invitational program. Wheeler's Orchestra will supply music for the affair.
The Glenwood post office for the week ending January 31 1914 lists uncalled letters. Persons calling for these letters should state they have been advertised. C L Fredericks and S Friedman are the names attached to the notice.
A Friday night sophomore contest featured orations humorous readings and a six year term debate. Edwin Carter won for The Flag with Maurice Lewis second for Mark Antony speech. Marc Bachman captured first in humor with His Symptoms, Jack Carl second for A Dog Partnership Case. Porter Rowe Harold Stranan Dean Jackson Guy Alley led the debate with the negative win. Music by Sophomore girls under Miss Louise Woodruff and a concluding class song marked a successful event.
A neighborhood birthday custom brings about a joint gathering at the Laraway home on Sunday February 1 as Mrs. Deupree marks her natal day. Family and friends include Mr. and Mrs. Deupree Ed Deupree and Eloise Dodder of Omaha Myrtle Nygren and children Genevieve and Wallace Sivers Olie Sivers and others in the group.

Doc Hiatt of Imogene visited Tabor to settle his late mother Elizabeth Hiatt's affairs. He brought a skin found on Hunter's Creek by Frank Smith, puzzling experts as to its species. Some call it a black otter or marten, others a black fox, though most fur men remain unsure.
