Singing Is Dying Out in Christmas Caroling
A reflection on the fading custom of door to door Christmas carol singing, its deep folk heritage, classic carols like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and notes on historical mentions from Davies Gilbert to Washington Irving. The piece praises reviving church Christmas carol services and recalls varied carols across France and England with historical anecdotes.
