About 200 apple varieties total 40 bushels, plus peaches, plums, and grapes, with contributions from Al Modgins, J. D. Buckingham, Samstes, and James Rhoades. The largest apple, a Holland Pippin from Manager Mitchell, weighed 2.03 pounds. Marry Dutl joins Murphy to help handle the exhibit, and Nims Brothers of Emerson supply vegetables for the agricultural display.
Wabash passenger train No 38 collided with a swivel engine in Council Bluffs yards on Sunday night. Several passengers were badly shaken and injured, with Barton Matthews, former Mineola section foreman, among the most seriously hurt after his head was crushed through a car window and a deep cut above the eyes posed a life threatening bleed.
The Woman's Home Missionary Society and Queen Esther Circle plan an ice cream fruit and lemonade social on the East Liberty church lawn north of ee Thursday evening August 3. A booth will offer aprons dusting caps and sat forth. In case of rain the event moves to Friday night.
The Latter Day Saints announce a camp meeting for the Fremont and Pottawattamie districts to be held Saturday August 25 in the grove on the A Bad Hare farm near Henderson. The meeting will close Sunday September 2 with services and activities for attendees.
