Epworth Leagues at East Liberty church north of Malvern collected $50 at a Thursday night ice cream social described as a good time. A large crowd attended in hot weather and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Malvern Firm Dissolves Partnership in Hawkins and Mulholland

The merchandise firm Hawkins and Mulholland at Malvern dissolves its partnership. Mr Mulholland will assume control, having served as manager for years. Mr Hawkins, now living in Burlington, had been with the firm for two years.

Canning Factory Starts Today in Glenwood

The Glenwood Canning factory begins its first run today with packed corms and tomatoes slated for processing later this year. A large acreage has been contracted and a substantial pack is anticipated.

Burlington Route Announces Low Colorado Round Trip Fare

The Burlington Route offers the lowest rate from this region to Colorado with a 910.90 round trip from Glenwood for travel on Aug 30 and Sept 1 2 2 and 4. Tickets returnable until Sept 12 or until Oct 7 with a 50 cent surcharge.

Birthday Surprise for Mrs. Quimby in Anderson Township

A pleasant Aug 5 birthday surprise for Mrs. H. H. Quimby at their country home in Anderson township. Guests included P. LE. Quimby, T. A. Kiger, Lottie Carr, G. C. Wilson, N. I. Roswell, Max Quimby, and others, with dinner baskets and spread dishes enjoyed by all.

Malvern reports show W oD Clark leasing the Cadwell blacksmith shop, John Wilson starting a new Mud Creek farm residence, and Dr Scott tending John Keenan who is recovering from a recent wound. Edges of town include Beckwith planning a new home, Meilor moving to Wayne county, Pace buying the old Burlington depot for a paint shop, cattle shipments to Chicago, Mrs Fishback moving to St Joseph, and Chautauqua attendance and school openings.

Mineola Notes and Local Happenings

Detlef Prien has his house neatly painted. Danes gather at the hall next Saturday night. Ferdinand Kuhl moved from Silver City to Mineola. Fred Kasten is building a 40 by 56 hay shed with cattle sheds on three sides. Miss Lizzie Goos visits George Pullman’s home north of Sidney. Kep Creek ball nine defeated Mineola on August 6. Colonel McKenzie ships stock to St Louis, with 28 hogs and about 15 cattle shipped since January 1, and over 400 cattle on hand. J. Cheney proclaims a favorable claim against Bio, and Frank F Chendy swears to a patent for Catarrh Cure. Public notices and local ads follow with testimonials and addresses.

Emerson two week outing and local changes show farm life

Emerson Tra Cheney and Bert Rens enjoy a two week outing at Colorado Springs costing Emerson merchants $300. Henry Douglas returned from Nebraska near Central City. George White prepares a prize herd for ied Oak fair then Des Moines. Mrs Gilbert Cheney attends Malvern visit to Mrs Booth. About a dozen Emerson residents attended. George White bought a 3 horsepower gasolene engine in Red Oak to grind feed and pump water. Infant child of Mr and Mrs Walter Clites died after a few hours. Mr and Mrs W Douglas return from over twenty month tour with their merry go round, now in Macedonia and Riverton next week. Harvey C Haseall and Rose Lee Turner wed at the groom's parents home with 30 friends present. Haseall & Son mercantile firm member is prosperous. Mrs Haseall from Virginia will reside here. Best wishes flow to the newlyweds.

Census dispute moves to court over Atlantic town’s figures

Census figures showing a population of 5180 face challenge after state executive council failed to revise them. Van Buskirk Bros. & Co. sold their Shenandoah milling business to Practical Milling Co. and will move machinery to Friend Neb. They have 60 days to close operations. Thomas O. Bell, Corning resident and longtime Odd Fellow, died at 88 in Carthage Mo. A farmer advised a pastor to remove his name from church records over milk and church duties, sparking a tale of faith and hypocrisy.
