Glenwood's Chautauqua week features varied events and visits. Local residents including doctors, lawyers, merchants, and national guests attend programs, concerts, and estate gatherings, with multiple townsfolk staying for weekend visits and excursions.
Sunday night fast mail from Pacific Junction to Creston, engine 2505, left 13 minutes late. Poor track between the Junction and Red Oak caused delays, but after Villisca the train sped to Creston, gaining eight minutes over 54 miles. Villisca to Creston took 3K minutes and Prescott to Cromwell 13 miles in ten minutes. One of the division’s best runs in some time.
Glenwood edges Hastings 6 to 5 last Thursday at Glenwood as Murray Watermaan is credited with a choke. Lineups show limited regulars with Glenwood’s Walling and Rhodes driving the offense while Hastings counters with Woods Led Starrs and Hathawaye. Island Park visit follows the scrimmage in which only four regulars played per side and Mayor Genung of Balfour umpired.
Seth Dean of Glenwood is poised to serve as construction engineer for the Pottawattamie Harrison county drainage ditch pending Mills county board consent. He will work for 74 dollars per day plus expenses, after meeting with the joint ditch board and receiving the offer. He is currently tied to Mills county work but expects to shift focus within a week.
O F Poot of Cours til Bliots firm of tax ferrets concluded work for the Mills county Board this Monday. Investigations yielded over 8000 in taxes assessed to county residents who failed to list property. The Board pays 15 percent of collections. Some assessments are not due until April 1 and October 1, 1906, so the firm will wait a year for full pay, totaling over 1200.
About 25 shootists attended last Thursday afternoon. Wm Brown won the gold medal and Frank Arnold received cigars. W H Vicker was close behind. Brown Mickel and Jed Weatherhead tied with 22 of 23. Brown needed 15 straight to claim the prize. Warren Laraway won a rocking chair.
Clarence C. Vanderpool and Pearl Moore wed Saturday at 4 pm at the bride's parents south of Glenwood in Lyons township. Rev. Briggs of Burr Oak Friends church officiated. Miss Mora Purcell wed Holstein hardware merchant Mr. Allen last Wednesday. A license issued to Harvey C. Hascall and Rosa L. Turner of Emerson. Hascall a young Emerson merchant.
A colored couple was refused a marriage license by Clerk Gourly this morning in Glenwood. The man, about 30, claimed Tama County Iowa as his home. the woman, described as a very light colored octoroon, said Texas as hers. They were strangers in town and had no identification available.
Reeder Hubbell moved to Glenwood yesterday from his farm seven miles northwest of town. The river has cut through 80 acres in section 31 St. Mary township, forming a pocket along the bank and threatening the home. Saturday night the family heard a disturbance along the river and feared for morning. In Glenwood a large Chautauqua audience heard Mills County writers Clarence Workman and Claude Anderson perform Ho merelda Art Thou Mine with soprano Miss Giles and pianist Mr Anderson receiving applause.
Uncle Billy Harrison, longtime courthouse janitor, has moved from Council Bluffs after a stay in Seattle and now resides on Worth Chestnut Street in Glenwood. Albert Harrison will teach Gowens school in Oak township this coming year, and Carlis will work at the Institution.
D. W. Bennett of Woodbine writes that Mills County needs the Tribune daily, praising its coverage and confirming a year’s subscription to bring more local news into the home.
On account of sickness Mrs Maud Ballington Booth was unable to fill her engagement at the Malvern Chautauqua. The association has arranged for her to lecture in Malvern on Friday afternoon August 11. Admission 25 cents.
Special teachers examination scheduled for Friday and Saturday this week will be held at Supt Moore's office in Glenwood. The notice from Special Examinations Supt Moore urges teachers to prepare and attend at the specified times and location.

A stock extra consisting of thirty two cars took two hours and forty minutes to travel Saturday evening fromDPieeltio duna tion to Creston. The unexpected delay disrupted the tide schedules and tested the efficiency of service, with the Bure lingo noted for stock shippers.
A large cattle shipment departed Malvern last Monday night totaling twenty four cars. J. M. Strahan delivered ten cars of fair cattle while N. brought ten car loads. Pat Kilmer sent four cars, M. Faird sent two cars for Merwin Hunter.
