Mr. and Mrs. John Branigan visited Shenandoah in the Wm. Ferguson home. A. J. Howe returned recently from a Fortnight at Sioux Rapids and Iowa's northern lake resort. Charles Parker of Shenandoah, Hog and Cattle Powder Co. secretary, was a Glenwood visitor. Miss Doris Cox of Hampton comes tomorrow for a visit with her Brownell classmate Pauline Cheyney. Mr. and Mrs. Murl Bird welcomed an 11young son on August 2. Rudolph Deitehler and wife left for a month in Seattle visiting relatives including Wm. Deitehler near Mineola. Ww. Cr. Rathke and John Branigan plan a Sunday departure for the West. Rathke will stop in Holbrook, Arizona, to visit relatives, then go to Los Angeles for a month. Mrs. Branigan will remain home for a few weeks.

Kasson Pioneer of American Diplomacy in Iowa History
John A. Kasson stood among Iowa’s notable figures in foreign service. Beginning in the Civil War as Special Commissioner to the International Postal Conference in Paris, he later held numerous diplomatic posts, served six terms in Congress, and three in the state legislature. During McKinley’s administration he pursued reciprocal treaties with Europe, securing at least twelve agreements that the Senate failed to ratify, a setback lamented by Secretary of State John Hay.
