Joseph Shaw and son Walter, now near Linton, Texas, killed a seven foot leopard after it killed a 200 pound calf and dragged it into a thicket. They spotted the animal eating the calf and killed it with a rifle and buckshot. The leopard stood over three feet high and three feet at the shoulder. the pair kept the hide.

Dry wines would push gallons higher. Wine grapes now offer better returns than table grapes, with common variety priced at about $10 per ton, while table grapes bring little to no profit.
