Grace Mortimer, ward and niece of farmer Atwood, is abducted by a masked brigand during a Nottinghamshire excursion near Sherwood Forest. The convicted silversmith Joseph Pennington reveals his identity with a maimed arm, and Grace is carried to a limestone cave where she overhears the bandit chief’s triumphal plans.
Grace Mortimer, kept prisoner by Pennington and gang in a rocky cavern, escapes through a rock opening with help from Farmer Atwood and a helpful driver. Pursued, four gang members are captured. Pennington and others are captured later and condemned to transportation. Grace becomes celebrated and ultimately marries Sir Andrew Hopgood with a rich dower from Farmer Atwood.
