A Providence citizen lost five chickens after a large rat was scared from a chicken coop. He discovered thirteen young rats and disposed of four by feeding to a cat. He set a trap to catch the old rat, which escaped, while the old rat moved the young to safety and rejoined them.
A classic advertisement touts Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup as instant relief for teething pain and related ailments. It claims to cure dysentery, regulate stomach and bowels, relieve wind colic, soften gums, reduce inflammation, and energize the system. The product is sold widely at 25 cents per bottle.
