Citizens invited to attend Millbrook council meeting

The Millbrook Village Council will meet Tuesday October 1 at 7 30 p m in Town Hall. A representative from Consumers Gas Co will discuss the gas question with the council. The public is welcome, especially those interested in gas matters.

Mystery Nickel Date 1925 Found in Ottawa Mint Melt

A reader notes finding a 1925 dated nickel last Saturday and recalls only 201,921 coins were minted that year. Most coins likely ended up melted at the Ottawa mint, with the item being the second such find in a decade through natural channels.

Veterans Land Act discussed at local legion hall

At the local Legion branch meeting on September 9, 1956, E W Bradley and Geo Jones explained the Veterans Land Act for Durham County. They outlined eligibility, qualifications, and amendments increasing aid for farm and home construction with up to 8000 dollars loans, interest free during construction, and Department-funded legal costs. About 21,000 homes had VLA aid by mid 1956, with many more since.

Takes Step Up at Town Hall as Jack Bailey Departures

Jack Bailey will not return to Friday nights at the Town Hall. He impressed fans with Cliff McKay on Holiday Ranch at the Toronto Exhibition before Cliff invited him to stay. Bailey receives about 1000 fan letters weekly. Best wishes to Jack.

Mrs H MacLeod Former Millbrook Resident Dies

Mrs H MacLeod, a former Millbrook resident, died September 11 at St Catharines Hospital after a period of ill health. She leaves her husband and son Dr Harry MacLeod, both of St Catharines, with Millbrook friends offering sympathy.
