The Hooper case began indictable proceedings in Joliette Quebec with a large crowd in the new courthouse. The principal early witness was Rossalie St Ambroise de Kildare, mother of the deceased, who testified her daughter age 30 had been married to Hooper ten years in Montreal and was insane when Hooper’s wife reportedly jumped from a train. Hooper said he felt bad and sought an asylum for his wife, with commitments obtained from a priest.
