Millbrook Village Council Minutes 1957 Meeting Minutes

Millbrook Village Council convened May 6 1957 with Reeve Geo Harrington and Councillors Coulter Gibson North and Raymes present. Communications read included insurance claim, 1956 annual report, water sewage approvals, conventions, budgets and grants. Council approved minutes, raised Millbrook Library levy, paid listed bills, and kept fire equipment within village limits pending mutual aid. A by law on mill rates and tax penalties was discussed and adopted for 1957. Council adjourned to June 3 1957.

Leaders Training School Attended By Two Institute Members

The May meeting of the Women's Institute was held at 8 p.m. on Saturday May 13 at the home of Mrs. Milton Challice with 12 members present. Mrs Allie Fallis presided as lunch was served by Mrs. Fallis and Mrs Challice. Mrs Wm Armstrong and Mrs Gerald Larmer were chosen to attend the Leaders Training School. A talent table and the Tweedsmuir History Book were on display. The District Annual Meeting is set for Campbellcroft on Tuesday May 28.

Fisherman nets eight and a half pound bass at pond

Fishing at the pond, Mr Fickling landed a bass weighing 8% pounds and measuring 2614 inches with a 16 inch girth. Spectators describe the moment as exciting as he fought the fish and was rescued from danger, enjoying the rare first time experience.
