The regular monthly Millbrook Village Council meeting on March 4, 1957 had full attendance. After reading February 4 minutes, motions approved receipts and filed communications from Municipal Affairs on grants and health unit water tests for 1956, plus bylaw borrowing up to 12000 from TD Bank. Council authorized culvert and patch purchases, and joined with Cavan Township to seek Association of Assessing Officers of Ontario membership.

Two visiting young women in Toronto mistook a bus driver for a familiar name, shouting Wally. The driver denied it, sparking laughter as they learned Wally rode another TTC bus. Earlier, they tested a terrazzo station floor by crawling around a stairwell, drawing amused stares from other riders.

Cobourg's Hon. Major John W. Foote V C visited Millbrook on Friday to tour the nearing completion Reformatory set to open soon. The Millbrook Lodge IOOF third degree team conferred on a class at Havelock on March 1. Social visits accompany a weekend slate including Mrs Stanford Sloan with Port Hope kin and several local families stopping by Mrs Hetherington.

Opposition for Our Local Reformatory Camp Bison

Reform Institution Manager John W Foote announces a new minimum security unit at the Ontario Reformatory Burwash named Camp Bison. The facility will house up to 200 prisoners with private rooms and amenities including radios and private sanitation. Inmates may have unlocked doors under normal conditions and access is limited to those with good behaviour.
