Mrs William Wilbur of Rowan is adjudged insane and sent to the asylum after a pulpit depiction of hell by a pastor. The vivid description shattered her reason and raised fears of hopeless madness. Separately, in Minneapolis John Johnston shaved three seconds from the 200 yards record to 17 2 5 and skated two miles in 6 01.
The threatened strike in the Western Union offices of the twin cities was avoided after adjustments yesterday. All operators except one were reinstated after discharge on Wednesday. A late Saturday fire at Best Fair's grocery on King Street Cobourg confined to the Feir's store. The stock is nearly a total loss while Field & Bro's dry goods on the west suffer smoke damage and W Caldwell's gent's furnishings on the east are badly damaged. Feir's loss estimated around a thousand dollars.
The ad instructs sending 25 Sunlight Soap wrappers bearing a slogan to Lever Bros Ltd in Toronto for a free pretty picture. Readers are told the image is advertising free and worth framing, with a note to pay only postage if wrappers are mailed with ends open and to write the address clearly.
