Obituary of Richard Gilmour of Carmel area

Richard Gilmour a well known farmer from the Carmel area south of Millbrook died after a two month illness on July 14 1959 at age 59 He was son of the late Alfred Gilmour and Emma Soper He is survived by his wife Olive Jones three brothers and one sister Armond of Grand Rapids Michigan Francis and Aubrey of Campbelltonrk and Mrs Robert MacDonald May of Millbrook Funeral held Friday at J W Haw Funeral Home Millbrook with Rev Gerald E Graham Grace Presbyterian Church Interment Zion Cemetery Cavan Township Pallbearers were neighbours Melville Strong Willmot Strong Harvey Challice Charles Dew George Martin Wesley Armstrong

Mrs Lloyd Hunter and two daughters Anita and Heather of Scarboro visited Millbrook on Sunday. Beatrix Ridge is staying with her grandmother in Millbrook. Fred McIndoo of Ida preached at St Andrew’s United Church. Families from Port Colborne, Millbrook, and Quebec visited England and Quebec cities last week. Several local residents hosted or visited relatives in Ontario, Quebec, and Michigan. Master Tom Pocock extended his holidays with the Winslow family. Gail Gibbs spent the week with Ebsarys in Smithville. Charlie Crowe vacationed in Ottawa and Quebec. Clifford Allin hosted visitors from Concord Toronto Plymouth and Michigan. Basil Stephens and family visited J H Parringer and traveled with Terry to Bar Harbour. They stopped by Lachine Quebec to see Lieut Raymond Barringer and family.

The St Andrew's Sunday School Picnic was held at Cobourg on July 8. Rain shortened some activities but all enjoyed the event. Millbrook Girls Finish Season With 19 9 Victory

Millbrook beat Courtice 19 to 9 to finish with 13 wins in 16 games and capture first place. Dorothy Gillis earned the win and remained perfect in league play at 6 0, as Gillis led Millbrook with 5 for 5 while Mary McDeowell and Laureen Guthrie each hit 4 for 5. Mary Armstrong hit her eighth homer. The final standings show Millbrook atop the table with 13 3, while Courtice and Bethany face a tiebreaker for the fourth playoff spot, with semi finals set against Bowmanville and Orono respectively.
