Congratulations to Mrs. Jane Robinson who marks her 96th birthday at Fairweather Rest Home. She fell last fall breaking a hip but is now able to walk again despite her great age.
A workman atop the armouries hangs onto a ladder while carrying. Others dig a trench around the armouries, about two feet wide, prompting speculation of a moat. Two or three men install a large plate glass window in Fowler's store, a task that took three hours to complete but would take seconds to break. Vandals appear faster than skilled workmen.
While digging at the Tinney home on King Street an old copper pie server was uncovered. The piece bears Pat. Apl. 1894 and Waldo with a horse head, featuring elaborate scrollwork. Weldon Coulter brought the relic for inspection and was urged to preserve it for the future.
After twenty one years in Millbrook the Barringers bid farewell with thanks to residents and distant supporters in New Zealand Germany California Florida and other places in the United States as well as to local partners across Millbrook Cavan South Monaghan and Manvers. They praise progress in the village and commend successor Mr Armstrong while inviting calls to 9 Brunswick Street.
The Mirror-Reporter will not publish on Thursday August 20 due to a change of ownership as Arm strong moves in and J H Barringer moves out. The team hopes to resume publication on August 27.
Miss E L Hetherington visits for a week with cousins Mr and Mrs Athol Hetherington in Grimsby Beach. Mr and Mrs Cecil Fallis of Buffalo N Y visit with Mr and Mrs Allie Fallis and Mr and Mrs Matt Todd last week. Mr and Mrs J O Medd with Elinore Morton of Toronto spent Sunday at Orillia. Mr and Mrs Ross Lunn and family of Montreal visited with their parents on King Street West last week.
Bailieboro couple announce the engagement of their daughter Isabella Margeret to Ross Joseph Thompson of Millbrook. The couple plans a wedding at Bailieboro United Church on Saturday September 5 1959 at 2 PM.
A barn dance to celebrate the completion of a new barn on the farm of Jacob VanDam Jr. will be held Saturday August 15. The farm lies miles east of Pontypool, one mile south of Highway 115. Modern and old time dancing, admission 75 cents per person.
A Sunday morning service at St. Andrew's reflects Hezekiah's temple cleansing and restoration. The sermon urges wholehearted heart-service over grand but empty offerings, emphasizing divine guidance, prayer, and dedication as the path to true prosperity. Christian life invites Jesus as counselor and guide.
The narrator recalls taking over The Mirror Reporter in January 1937 and producing a dance poster for a hop at Cavan Hall. Now after 21 years, his final task mirrors that start with a Barn Dance in Pontypool district to celebrate a new barn on Mr. Jacob VanDam Jr. farm scheduled for Saturday August 15. It asks if this is a coincidence.

Millbrook defeated Port Hope 6 to 2 as Mary McDowell hit a three run homer in the first and another in the seventh. McDowell and Eileen Powell went 3 for 4 for Millbrook, pitcher Hileem Powell allowed 2 walks, 6 hits, 5 strikeouts in 7 innings. Port Hope played without Marg Armstrong who leads Millbrook with 10 home runs this season. Millbrook hosts Bowmanville tomorrow in the fifth game of the semi final series. fans urged to support the team.
Lions Club hosts a Friday donkey baseball event on August 28 showcasing teams and local participation. Proceeds benefit community projects and feature playful competition with mascots and local volunteers.
