A Montreal despatch reports the Roman Catholic Church at Goteau du Lac was destroyed by fire on Wednesday night, causing losses over 50,000 dollars. The blaze threatened a nearby convent. about 300 nuns and pupils fled in haste. The church burned to the ground but the convent was saved.

Tragedy at Columbus mine claims three lives

An accident at the Columbus mine in Cobalt at 2 o clock Wednesday morning killed William Hamilton of Ottawa Fred Nelly of West Tempe and Edward Nation of St Pierre. The cable slipped from its wheel as the men descended in a bucket during blasting work. Hamilton attempted to fix air supply and later died. Nelly and Nation were fatally injured.
