City residents lament desecration of the cemetery grounds after flowers and vases were stolen and a grave damaged by youths. City Marshal Leon Williams warns of rising auto tire thefts and urges owners to record tire serial numbers to aid recovery and prosecution before Judge Koch.
Members and friends of the Methodist Community Church announce that Rev and Mrs Stephens and baby depart Milford this week for a pastorate in Indiana. He cites desire to be near home and Purdue for post graduate work, expresses appreciation for Milford, and asks prayers for success in the new community. Mrs Wilson will lead the Adult Bible Class at 11:00 a.m. Sunday School remains at 9:00 a.m.
The Milford Ward Relief Society started autumn events with a Tuesday social September 28 at the Relief Society Hall of the LDS chapel. Thirty nine ladies attended as the music department led the program under Mrs. Lou Moore, Mrs. Lillian Anderson, and Mary dilingon with Gertrude Fisher giving the prayer and the song “For the Strength of the Hilts.”
Bracken Lee spoke in Milford urging strict government economy and an overhaul of welfare, liquor and fish and game administration. He faulted road spending and proposed reducing "dead timber" in state operations while advocating equal representation on the fish and game board and improved welfare targeting amid ongoing political discuss.
William Benjamin Gardner age 59 a Union Pacific Railroad conductor for 25 years died early Saturday in a Cedar City hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born in Iowa June 18 1889 married Margaret DeVault Storey on January 8 1921 and had worked in Salt Lake City Milford division before Cedar City. Gardner was a Scottish Rite Mason active in Utah Masonic circles and a member of Milford W P W. He is survived by his widow a stepson George Storey four siblings and other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Salt Lake City Masonic temple with burial in the Masonic plot there.
Hospital notes record Wendy Holm born September 27 at Milford Hospital weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holm. She is the first girl in the Holm line for many years, with prior arrivals being boys.
Government urges nationwide and Utah observance from October 3 to 9. Governor Maw proclaims the week to highlight fire dangers and the need for public support of prevention efforts. Last year US fire losses reached 648 million dollars with about 8,500 fatalities. Citizens urged to be fire conscious, support local departments, and take personal steps to reduce risk and insurance costs.
The General Election on Tuesday November 2 will be hotly contested. Four registration dates remain with registrars listing names 8 am to 9 pm on October 5 12 26 and 27. Check the post office registration book and see your registration agent by October 5.
Milford and Beaver lodges carried out initiatory first second and third degree work over three days. Milford members and twenty locals traveled to Beaver to confer initiatory degree on two Milford and five Beaver candidates. Beaver team later conferred first degree work at Milford. Milford and Beaver visitors returned to Beaver where Salt Lake lodge members conferred second and third degree work on seven candidates.
The Visiting Teachers meeting is scheduled for 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The theology meeting will begin at 2 30.
In a high wind, Beaver edged Milford 14 to 12 as Beaver’s Robinson and Williams scored touchdowns and Davis added early points. Milford battled back with passing and a late push, but penalties and a fumbled recovery in the Milford red zone stalled their rally.
Mrs D L Kesler left Tuesday evening for Salt Lake to attend the LDS Conference this weekend. Daughters of Utah Pioneers Milford chapter will hold an open meeting October 6 at Mrs Ethel Nielsen's home. all regular members urged to attend. Mrs Lou Moore visits Provo with her son-in-law and daughter. Families including the Voorhees and Stoker households traveled to Beaver and nearby spots. Mrs Carl Rummler and son Billie depart for Salt Lake for medical treatment. Mrs Lester Gustin and relatives visited Oakland for the illness of her father, W G White. they attended the funeral of William Benjamin Gardner in Salt Lake. G I A ladies attended the funeral of John Killam in Cedar City. Owen R Smith and family spent the weekend in Salt Lake. Albert Smith, a mining engineering senior, registered at the University of Utah after summer work in Encampment Wyo. Mrs Allen Hedges of Salt Lake City spent the weekend with her sister Mrs Dan James. Father T Halloran of Richfield spent a few days in Milford, and Father J H Valine made a business trip to Salt Lake.
Milford exhibitors at the Utah State Fair won prizes for needle work. Mrs Dottie Johnston took first prize in sweepstakes with a handmade cut-work table cloth. Mrs Vern Shingleton earned blue ribbons for crocheted table cloth and pillow cases.
