Officials and citizens statewide join in Governor Henry H Bloods sixty fifth birthday ball at Coopput Grove ballroom Salt Lake City on Wednesday October 6. Clarence Neslen chairs committee with B Hi Retinson secretary inviting county chairmen to form county invitation groups. Admission is free by invitation. ball described as dignified informal social event not political. Military units will handle affairs with fife and drum corps two bands and a dance orchestra. Up to several thousand guests expected.
Milford high school fairs since Principal Eli Moody began have grown each year. The latest fair impressed with a magnificent display of products and quality, especially the strawberry exhibits from Lenora Bowen and the Connell family. J H Parsons lauds the effort and urges more local planting. The athletic field hosted races and the F F A harvest ball featured Theo Zabriskie as queen, with Margaret Moore and Elaine Kirk as attendants. Some award lists were mislaid and others published. results span flowers vegetables and mixed bouquets with multiple local students earning top placements.
The Milford Cash Market, completely reorganized and restocked with high class merchandise, reopened last Saturday under Roy Curly Rogers. Established April 5, Rogers aims to regain patronage and serve meat and grocery buyers to the best of his ability. Clyde Higbee of Cedar City will take over the meat department once recovered from an appendicitis operation.
Funeral services for Deloy Atkin 27 known as Dutch were held at the L. D. S. chapel. He died Sunday after a five month illness. Burial was in Beaver cemetery. He was born December 1 1909 in Milford, survived by his parents, a brother Warren a sister Mrs T B Williams and their spouses.
A regional AAA gathering in Salt Lake featured Lions Wynaught and Rishel discussing Utah motorist affairs and past tactics. Weather disrupted Constitution Day events while Roosevelt planned a six thousand mile tour, with future remarks and dedications noted for October and a planned Washington return.
Milford observers note a change at Milford Auto Company as L. G. Clay withdraws and W. I. Shorty Killam takes over ownership and management. Clay family plans California departure while Killam promises steady service at the old stand with John Bird assisting in mechanical work. Killam also stocks Shell gasoline and invites motorists to visit.
Frisco Lulu property, recently acquired by Menuman Stining Co, shows promising new showings in the San Francisco district near Milford Utah. Under HT. Johnson of Long Beach, work includes driving 80 and 280 foot drifts and a 400 foot test shaft as John Bowman contracts for a 400 foot tunnel. Assays reportedly run around 20 dollars per ton with gold and silver, aiming to tap north south veins and intensify this mineral region.
Mr and Mrs J C Smith and daughters Renee and Tha depart Friday for Salt Lake City where Renee will join the Mission home for a few weeks before heading to the New England states on a mission for the L D S church. Mr and Mrs Smith and Ina returned home Tuesday with Jean Smith, daughter of Kent Smith, joining them on the trip.
Beaver County 4-H members led by Zelma Eyre and Iala Cilvert competed at the Beaver fair. J Smith won second healthiest 4-H club boy at the state meet and received a prize. Eugene Fotheringham and Clark Mathews placed third in forestry top-saving contest with a time of 1 minute 14% seconds. Zelma Eyre and Iala Cilvert excelled in county title dress and health contest respectively, among strong state competitors.
L. G. Clay left Milford Sunday for Huntington Park California where he will join his wife and family and make their home there Mrs Clay and the children had spent the summer with her parents in Pillmore and preceded Mr Clay to the coast Mrs Clays civic and religious activities and her interest in Parent-Teachers Raw Mothers and Scout work are noted John and Caroline their children have taken prominent parts at school and in musical circles in Milford over the years
