Soalficvent of Beaverd County National Foundation and local doctors report vaccine on hand for second polio shots in Milford awaiting State Board of Health approval. Immunizations are expected to begin shortly after October 1.
The Seventh District fall convention of the American Legion will be held in Kanab on Saturday October 1 at 7 p m. Post 69 invites officers and members from District 7 posts to attend with Legion and Auxiliary officers from the Utah Department. The agenda includes Ladies Auxiliary meetings and a barbecue prepared by Blaine Matheson of Parowan at Three Lakes Canyon Moqui Caverns six miles north of Kanab.
Milford High grid team opened the 1955 league season with a 21 to 6 loss to Cedar City Redmen. Vee Wadsworth scored Milford’s only first half TD on a 30 yard run. The Tigers showed early spark but faded in the second half as Cedar City added three TDs and a safety. Milford next plays at Hurricane Friday night, kickoff at 7.
The 1955 pheasant shoot begins Friday November 11 at 8 a m in Besver County with closing at 5 40 p m The other two days allow hunting from 7 a m to 5 30 p m in Besver County Emery Millard Box Elder Cache Duchesne San Juan Sevier and Uintah counties The season runs seven days in some counties and five days in others Only cock birds are legal with a bag limit of three and possession limit of six after opening day.
The Department of Fish and Game cites laws on trespass on privately owned lands posted for hunting camping or trapping. It states that posting requires no less than one quarter mile spacing along exterior boundaries and all access roads and trails.
The Utah Fish and Game Department reports completion of restocking Panguitch Lake with 525000 rainbow trout 98000 native trout and 72000 Kokanee salmon after chemical treatment to remove trash fish. The program is deemed a complete success and angling will resume for the regular trout season on June 9 with fish expected to be legal size or larger.
Florence Miller of Rives Tennessee, sister of Mrs. Orrin Williams, died Friday September 16 from a heart ailment. Funeral services were held Monday September 19 at the Church of Christ in Rives with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The Milford Jaycee-Ettes elected officers for the season at a meeting hosted by Mrs Anrathy Very ry. Officers named include Phyllis Symond president Patricia Davin vice president Gayle Gale secretary Dorothy Torry treasurer Virginia Davis membership chairman Benple Easton publicity chairman Patricia Williams reporter. Board directors named were Nola Claris Jensen and Davis. Constitution committee members include Gayle Bonnie Sneleen Bonnie Bastion and Marilyn Fotheringham. The group adopted its newly revised constitution and by-laws.
Judge OC presided over filings including Koch Prank Phillips, transient, forfeiture of 510 bail. Defendants faced fines for traffic deeds with John Hills 35, Lesa Acklin 5, Harold Winn 55, Joe Villegis 2.50, Phyllis Keetch 1, Richard Oyler 5, and Orlyn Stott Gray received a warning for an improper turn at an intersection.
Milford's Business and Professional Women's Club will receive its charter Friday after a banquet at the Methodist Church. A 14 member delegation from Beaver will attend led by Miss Anna Stark, state membership chairman, with Marcella Finlay, state president, presenting the charter.
The Milford area begins dial telephone service at midnight Saturday October 1 as Milford Beaver Minersville and Beckie switch from operator to direct dialing. Two new buildings, 1200 dial phones, and 75 tons of dial gear mark the upgrade with emergency calls advised until full cutover.
City authorities with Mountain States Telephone Co. implement dedicated reporting numbers for fires and police assistance. Report fires at Dudley 7 2433 and police at Dudley 7 2831 or via regular operator if needed. Citizens are urged to wait for dial tower tone before dialing to ensure proper delivery.
Dr and Mrs D A Symond spent last Thursday in Las Vegas attending the Thunder Bird Hotel sessions of the Western Association of Railroad Surgeons.
Common dial mistakes include confusing zero with the letter G and one with T. Zero sits in the dial opening margin while one sits by itself on the dial. After dialing each number you must let the dial return to its start. Do not start dialing before you hear the dial tone a steady hum.
The Milford exchange began in February 1902 and grew from 66 phones in 1911 to 141 in 1925, dipping to 133 in 1928. By 1945 numbers reached 278 and today 571 homes and businesses receive Mountain States Telephone Co service, with large gains from 1945 to 1955 surpassing earlier 43 years.
W. J. Macklin regional director for 11 Western states and G. S. Brown Alabama state manager of the US Railroad Retirement Board will visit Milford on Wednesday November 9 to meet with local railroad workers and their wives. They will explain retirement and unemployment benefit matters and answer questions. All railroaders are urged to attend.
Principal Ross Eppich reported enrollment gains for Milford High with 1955 at 201 students and last year at 203. Peak 1954 enrollment reached 408, based on total students who attended at any time, per County Supt. D. Re Pearce.

The Milford Elementary P T A held a special meeting to confirm plans to attend the Minersville district conference on September 29 and to send a delegation to the White House Conference on Education in Minersville on October 5. Officers and committees for the school year were announced.
Blake son of Mr and Mrs Ho M Blaise of Milford has been promoted to Airman First Class. He serves as a firefighter with the Base Fire Department on Johnston Island where he has been for 11 months and is due to return home next month.
Milford High School announces that the top senior science student will be eligible for Bausch and Lomb scholarships at the University of Rochester. The school’s candidate, winner of the Honorary Science Award, will receive the medal at graduation in early 1936.

Ladies fashion show proceeds will fund purchases of playground equipment for the American Legion recreation area. Models will wear outfits from Altman’s Style Shoppe and Penney’s, with a post show tea to follow. Proceeds support equipment to be installed at the legion facility.
Farmers urged to submit applications and allocations by Monday October 3 with September 30 as the final date to screen requests. Interested farmers should direct their requests to Keith Barton, office manager at Beny er.
