Towns end Old Age Pension Club Organized in Milford

Milford town residents formed the Towns end Old Age Pension club in Milford. A. J. Curtis of Salt Lake City, state manager, attended a Milford Firemen hall meeting Tuesday night where officers were installed: Andrew C. Jensen president Edward Bardsley vice president Mrs Eva Evans secretary. Thirty one members enrolled. 8. O. Montana Gridiron Guests Pleased With Milford Stop

University of Montana football squad spent eight hours in Milford enjoying Milford hospitality between trains from Helena to Los Angeles. They trained at the Union Pacific ball park and swam at the high school, then continued to UCLA on Saturday.

Local People Hurt In Tipover Near Cove Fort

Mrs J J Weir wife of Dr Weir suffered a broken wrist and others in the truck she drove had cuts and bruises Friday afternoon last week when the vehicle left the road and overturned south of Cove Fort. The party included Mrs Bessie Weir and two children and Mr and Mrs Ernest Myers and child of Minersville. Mrs Weir may have dozed momentarily causing the crash. Dr Weir was summoned from Milford and the injured received first aid at Dr E S McQuarrie’s Besver office.

Roosevelt to Make Brief Stop on Longest Presidential Train

President Franklin D. Roosevelt and party aboard the longest presidential special train in history will pause in Milford for 10 minutes Sunday afternoon at 6 25. The high school band in uniform will serenade the visitors as the train roars westward. No stop at Delta, but Delta’s band travels to Lynndyl for an 18 minute halt with service.

Government well driller H. I. Hall was in Milford for business. He is finishing contract wells west of Konash and will move to Frisco to drill a pair of wells there.

Milford Girls Sweep 4-H Contest For Utah State Fair

Miss Elaine Kirk of Milford scored 995 points to win the county 4-H style review while Miss Ithan Patterson earned the top place in 4-H demonstration work as part of a two girl team with Miss Marie Carlson. Beaver high school rival finished 15 points behind. Mrs. M. H. Pool leads the Milford Home Science group and will accompany the girls to Salt Lake for state events.

Dr W E Blackstock new superintendent of the Utah Methodist mission spoke at both morning and evening services at the Milford M E church. A quarterly conference followed the evening service discussed pastor employment but no action due to financial obligations. Blackstock offered to preach as often as possible.

Milford High School adds business teacher Mr Yack a 1930 B Y U graduate with a NYU masters. He brings three years practical teaching and draws ex graduates to study bookkeeping typing and shorthand boosting scholarship. Classes organized for an active school year as 11th and 12th grade programs open. Beaver Mountain CCC team beat Milford 9 to 3 with strong batting and errors in Milford defense.

Big Utah State Fair Opens With Record Exhibits And New Attractions

The 1936 Utah State Fair begins in Salt Lake City for eight days ending October 6. Utah entries span livestock, agriculture, arts, education, and housing exhibits with Modeltown FHA displays and many model homes. Amusements include circuses, vaudeville acts, and daring auto races. Admission drops to 21 cents, boosting expected attendance.
