The Milford high school reports its largest enrollment yet with 112 seniors and a plan to diversify subjects over four years. New clubs are formed under six organizers, including Home Economics, Agriculture, Literary and Dramatic, Science, and Music, with elected officers for the senior class.
Thieves blew open the Jefferson Mercantile Co. safe for about 250 dollars in cash and two Masonic emblems. They entered through a skylight and ice plant, used dynamite, left papers and checks intact, and escaped by the same entry method. Sheriff and deputies investigate with no clues yet.
Notice to all interested in the liquidation of the State Bank of Beaver County explains that the Depositors Committee protested rapid liquidation but the court sustained only major items. The letter urges a reasonable liquidation pace and cautions against inflaming creditors or increasing court costs. The protest file is available at the Beaver County Courthouse.
Bonna McQuarrie 1 year old daughter of Dr Edward S McQuarrie Beaver died in a Salt Lake hospital Sunday at 11 pm after 24 hours of efforts to remove a pine nut lodged in her windpipe. She was rushed from Beaver Friday night and two more operations followed before an artificial neck tube allowed breathing but pneumonia caused death. Survived by parents grandparents John G McQuarrie state insurance commissioner and Mrs McQuarrie a sister Ina Marie 4 and many Utah relatives. Funeral in Beaver Tuesday.
A Republican county convention will be held at Minersville on Saturday Oct 8 1932 to nominate candidates for county commissioners two and four year terms representative to the state legislature and county attorney Delegates from Beaver will be chosen at a primary Oct 1 at 5 PM in the courthouse.
Beaver County reports a booming turkey growing season with shipments for Thanksgiving and Christmas expected to top last year's 3000 birds. Ranchers anticipate near 5000 marketable turkeys with many selling 400 to 600 birds each, highlighting turkey farming as a profitable side line for farmers.
Mrs Harold Lloyd wife of the famous comedian passed through Milford Sunday en route to Los Angeles. During the train stop she sent four baskets of flowers to Milford Hospital. Anston Smith returned from a motor trip to Boise with Ray Schutt of Willys Knight. He notes crops great but ten banks recently closed in the area.
The Democratic slate includes U S senator Elbert D Thomas Abe Murdock first district J Will Robinson second district Henry H Blood governor D W Moffat justice of the supreme court Milton H Welling secretary of state Joseph Chez attorney general Charles A Stain state treasurer Julius C Anderson state auditor C H Skidmore superintendent of public instruction and presidential electors Clarence Nelson John F Welch Frank A Drury and W S Greenwood.
A Beaver County committee sponsored by the Beaver Lions club and representing major interests conducted its second annual trip through the Beaver mountains to assess summer range conditions. The 18 mile trek from Big Flat ranger station via Big Flat Lac La Baron Meadows Beaver watershed and back noted improved grasses and deer distribution.
The Democratic County Central committee met in Beaver and postponed the county convention from Sept 28 to Oct 8. The Minersville event will take place at 10 a.m. on the new date.
The Salt Lake papers misprinted dates prompting clarification. Deer season runs October 20 to 30 with one horned male per license. Pheasant opening at 1 PM November 5. Elk season November 10 to 24. Duck season October 1 to November 30 noon to sunset. Goose limit allows White or Snow geese. Fish and Game urges respect for landowners, fire safety, and proper licensing.
Telluride Power company held its annual outing Sunday at the upper Beaver generating plant. Representatives from all divisions, totaling 251 people, attended. The program included sports contests music and a picnic lunch. Officials in charge of arrangements hailed from Salt Lake Richfield and several Utah towns.
Governor Franklin D Roosevelt a Democratic candidate will address voters tonight in Louis City Iowa. Radio listeners can hear the talk on KDYL at 7 00 p m mountain time.
A Milford Palmer Pool hall suffered a break in last Wednesday when the rear lock was forced and four slot machines were stolen. The machines were loaded into a car and later found at the Beaver Milford highway bridge after being damaged with a hammer or sledge. The haul is believed to be under twenty five dollars with no arrests yet.
The Milford Chapter of the American Red Cross will distribute government cotton cloth to needy families. Mrs Antone Johnson and Mrs N L Kelly lead the distribution and garment making with coordination by Horace Palmer. Limited cloth under a Congressional act requires careful targeting in South Milford and outlying areas. Miss Mildred Nichols from Salt Lake City visits her father Bert Nichols.
The slate includes Reed Smoot for U S senator, Don B Colton for First district congress, F C Loofbourrow for Second district, W W Seegmiller for governor, A Edse Christensen for secretary of state, George P Parker for attorney general, Ivor Ajax for state treasurer, Frank M Openshaw for state auditor, Dr C N Jensen for instruction, and presidential electors Mrs C P Overfield Fred Rich Robert I Young M C Packard.
Ranger H M Christensen announced a 2025 emergency grant of 2025 dollars from the Forest office in Ogden to extend the Junction Puffer Lake road from the forest boundary into City Creek canyon. The funding will provide several weeks of employment this fall and aims to continue the highway toward the lake, with additional funds hoped next year to complete the route.
Three state Republican candidates spoke yesterday afternoon at the L D S church in Milford under the Ladies' Republican club. Speakers included Congressman Don B Colton A E Christensen nominee for secretary of state and George P Parker attorney general.
Mrs Itha Kinney entertained a small dinner party Tuesday evening in honor of N A McKay a Milford businessman on a short visit. Guests included Mr McKay Mr and Mrs L A Wynaught Erma Gillies Fay Davidson Marion Schroeder and Sam and Harold Cline with Melay of Hollywood the Mary Pickford manager.
Milford dropped two games Sunday to Beaver 9 to 2 and Miner sville 13 to 10. Pitchers Rochek and Horton battled well, but Milford errors in the infield and misplays in the outfield let in runs. Roy Coleman homered and doubled, while Peterson delivered a pinch hit single in a late rally.
