The Mater Tigers edged Hinckley 6 0 in the football opener. Despite a slow start, Mater rallied to secure a season opening victory as CL Diyeavhall kicked off and delivered a 17 yard scoring drive in the first quarter.
Milford reports three oil wells to 3500 feet with one showing indications of water in a Reed farming area lease, amid plans to test irrigation potential. Milford High Tigers debut new lights with a 21 6 win over Hinckley as Cedar City and Millard games loom. district standings altered by conference games Kanab and Cedar City count in won lost column.
Republican candidates Bennett and Jones harshly criticized U S deficit spending in Milford at St. Bridget’s Recreation Hall after noon. They argued federal taxes drain Beaver County revenues, citing a 20 percent cut from community holidays and taxes on liquor and income as examples, while proposing to keep funds local for recreation and home-town projects.
Wallace F. Bennett launches a Utah campaign assert ing NAM leadership helps serve the nation. He notes NAM cannot engage in politics by law while accusing CIO leaders of backing Elbert D. Thomas and Democratic ads. Bennett cites NAM’s 17 000 members and 70 percent under 250 employees as weight in the argument.
Milford High hosts the married steeplejack pair Lee and Mary Ann Quinn in Steeplejack and Jill. Oct 2 at 8 p m the program features color movie shots a flagpole demonstration and expert explanation by Mr Quinn. Admission 25 cents adults 10 cents students with activity cards to support costs.
A district convention of the Utah Pioneers of Beaver Iron and Washington Counties will convene in the Beaver DUP hall Thursday at 10 30 a m under Mrs Beulah Wood of Minersville county president Mrs Kate B Carter state president will attend as principal speaker. A noon luncheon will precede the dedication of a monument to the first Beaver settler just south of the Beaver River bridge on 41, guided by Anderson Camp with Mrs Tattersel captain. A history of early settlers is inscribed on a plaque unveiled by pioneer residents.
Senator Elbert D. Thomas of Utah urged party solidarity at a Milford rally with Democratic candidates from Millard and Beaver counties. He outlined his “Thomasism” achievements, defended socialized medicine, and urged voters to compare budgets before this election.
A Milford County P T A meeting was held at Minersville on September 20 with county teachers and PAT A officials present along with state and regional representatives. The first P T A meeting of the year followed on September 25 at the gym with introductions by Toni Affens and Maud L. Crane, then square dancing and refreshments.
Work started this week on Milford s white way lighting as Telluride Power Company crews install bolts in Main Street sidewalks to support steel ornamental poles. Poles and a controller unit have not arrived yet, and officials say the manufacturer s Sept 8 letter promised shipment within two weeks. Work will speed up after material arrives.
Mr and Mrs Hayward Carter of Minersville celebrate their golden anniversary with an open house October 3 from 2 to 6 p m at home. Mrs Carter, born Inez Roberts in Minersville, and Mr Carter, age 70, married October 3 1900. They have nine children, 33 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, with a program and dancing planned at the LDS Recreation hall.
Othello Riley, state game warden, says deer are in fine condition and well distributed in the mountain area. Permits for the 1950 season will be sold at the county courthouse starting Monday morning.
