Farm notes compare feeding value of wheat to corn and barley, noting wheat often cheaper per unit for poultry sheep hogs and cattle. The government publication suggests grinding grain, finishing turkeys on wheat, and using a mixed ration with oats barley and wheat. It covers molting patterns in hens and recommends a mash recipe and timing for best turkey prices.
Four hundred sixty pupils registered in Milford Schools in week two. Senior high totals stand at one hundred, junior high seven and eight at seventy one, elementary grades one through six at two hundred eighty nine. Several new teachers join the staff, with large high school chorus demand and popular art and typewriting classes.
A Democratic primary is set for Milford Precinct on Saturday September 27 1980 at 215 o'clock in the Oui Fellow Hall Milford to choose delegates and alternates to the Democratic County Convention in Milford Utah and to nominate Precinct Justice of the Peace and Constable. The event also handles any other business before the primary.
The Democratic Party of Beaver County Utah calls a county convention in Milford on September 10 1920 at 10 AM to nominate a full county ticket for the November 4 1930 election and to reorganize county officers. Delegates are apportioned by precinct with 39 total delegates and nominations for justice of the peace and constables to be set at primaries. J E Wilson is county chairman.
H. L. Venable a former Milford resident was arrested Saturday for reckless driving on Milford’s main street. He spent the night in the city jail and pleaded guilty before Judge Nichols, receiving a $25 fine as officers vow to curb careless driving.
Last Friday two carloads of dairy cows from the California Dairy Stock Company arrived in Milford for sale to farmers. Most cows sold. a few heifers remain. Another carload expected this week. Creamery work advances under Mr Nelson of Los Angeles. Local speakers Jess Baker and Frank Williams set for L D S church September 27 at 7 30 p m. Cyrus S Rogers of San Francisco to lecture for Christian Science Sunday September 28 at 3 p m. Public invited. Milford reports a fatal incident last night.
Four inmates remain housed at Beaver County jail with no rooms to let. Bill Pryor of Minersville serves ten days plus $25 fine for contempt over child support, with an extra 25 days if unpaid. William Martin of Greenville and Arthur Huntington of Beaver, each serve 100 days after withdrawing an appeal from justice court. Aubra Patterson, jailed for forgery, faces six months and a $50 fine after judge reduces from $200 and 35 days to stay conditional on behavior.
Betty Welch, four, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Welch, died Saturday at home from spinal meningitis after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at the home with Bishop Bird presiding, a ladies trio singing, and speakers Bishop Bird Ben Taylor and W. A. Miller. Interment followed at Milford Cemetery.
Reverend H. D. Shepherd from Grand Junction Colorado arrived in Milford last Friday to assume charge of the local Methodist Church.
A call issued by the County Republican Central Committee announces a convention in Milford Utah on September 30 1980 at 10 AM to nominate candidates for county offices including Chairman, Sheriff, Treasurer, Clerk, Assessor, Recorder, two Commissioners and a Survey. Delegates allocated by precincts. includes Justice of the Peace and Constable to be voted. F D Williams is noted as County Chairman.
A Republican primary is scheduled in Milford Utah for precincts 1 and 2 at Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday September 27 1930 at 8 30 p m. The election will select 16 delegates and 16 alternates to the county convention in Milford on September 30 1930. Voters will also nominate candidates for precinct justice of the peace and constable and address any other business.
The trial of Amiel Kelson former Milford barber charged with breaking into a pool hall in May ended with a hung jury in Beaver District Court. Judge LeRoy Cox dismissed the main case and a related charge of breaking into the adjacent barber shop.
At the senatorial convention in Cedar City on Saturday Geo. Weterson of Milford won the Republican nomination for state senator. Delegates from Washington, Beaver, Tron, and other counties initially failed to nominate on the first ballot. On the second ballot Washington county switched to the Beaver candidate, electing Mr. Jefferson by a safe majority. Jefferson previously represented Beaver county in the last legislature and is well known in the southern part of the state.
Beaver resident F. Willden underwent an appendicitis operation on Sunday. Miss Davin, formerly a hospital patient, returned home to Caliente on Wednesday. J. Hall, convalescing after surgery, went back home yesterday. Christian Science lecture at eight o'clock tonight in Wheging st.
Lions from Milford and Beaver host a joint luncheon at London Cafe Beavers. They seek state and county support to oil surface the Beaver Milford Highway in the coming year noting heavy traffic and prior spending on the 81 highway. The road committees will approach county commissioners and the state road commission to include oiling in next year’s budget.
The Civic Association of Southern Utah, formed at Richfield, held its second Cedar City meeting. Beaver County's Geo Jefferson of Milford serves as vice president. The group adopts a constitution to promote southern Utah’s communities and resources, plans an educational outreach, and will sell memberships at 200 per year to hire a field secretary and cover costs. The next executive board meeting is in Price, Utah, on November 5.
M G M offers an all star talking comedy revealing inside studio gates with appearances by Buster Keaton Anita Page and Lionel Barrymore. Directors Fred Niblo Cecil B DeMille and David Burton appear as themselves in this industry glimpse scheduled for Friday on Saturday at the Vic tory Theater.
Milford Mutual Improvement Associations open the year with a social on September 16 and regular meetings starting Tuesday. Both groups report full reorganizations and capable officer staffs. The young men and women leaders list presidents counselors secretaries and aides, with a busy program including drama music public speaking and athletics. Social events will dominate and the next meeting on September 20 focuses on social activity. Meetings are every Tuesday at 7 30 p m in the Ward Chapel, with growing attendance prompting potential extra room.
The Pierian club meets Monday September 20 at eight p m at Mrs Roy White's home. Jolly Stitchers enjoyed sewing and refreshments at Mrs Karl Levi's Thursday afternoon. Guests included Mrs HL MM Hearn, Mrs Jas Lane, and others while hostess's daughters helped. Mrs Leah Richards hosted a Glendale California visitor and local ladies attended. Mr and Mrs Scott Tanner hosted dinner for Tom Schow as he prepares for Logan College. Guests at Friday event honoring Mrs Dan Ferguson included Mrs Wm Arnestrong Z C Laides Dan Ferguson and the guest of honor.
Lions club members protest the discontinuation of trains Nos 108 and 104 by the Union Pacific. Milford mail and express service are cut to 36 hours to Salt Lake City, prompting a wired protest to Postmaster General and TPB officials to restore schedules if the trains are permanently removed.
