Installations of American Legion Auxiliary officers for the coming year were held at the LD S church on September 10. Mrs. Roberts Rowley of Parowan district president officiated with Mrs. Adams as Secretary and Mrs. Cartwright and their husbands accompanying.
Milford youths and volunteers earned life saving awards after a Red Cross swimming and life saving course. Ruth Pool was the sole female recipient, receiving senior and junior honors alongside peers Ras Baker Harry Russey and David Williams Jr in senior division and Joe Smith Jr Douglas Kirk Stanley Hughes in junior division, with CCC boys and local officials aiding.
Young lad from Garrison underwent operation Glen Whiting on Wednesday at Milford Hospital. Dr Shannon reports the near ruptured appendix surgery went well and the patient is recovering along nicely under careful care.
Ethel Stith serves as president with Matta Weston as first vice president and La Prick Leses as second vice president. Ethel Nielsen is secretary with Jean Heslington as treasurer, Nina Rintham as chaplain, Vers Veyson as historian and Edna Baker as vice president of the arts. After the officers were installed, eight dancing party and refreshments were enjoyed by the group members and the Auxiliary.
Floyd Ketter is named new coach at Milford High School coming from Salina High. He stresses community support and student body backing to rebuild a winning basketball program. Principal Mondy praises his experience in developing successful teams and guiding boys, while Lions president Shanfon outlines 1937-38 club committees across activities, finance, membership, publicity, health, and safety.
Milford representatives attended the annual Telluride Power Company employees picnic held Sunday at the upper plant in Beaver Canyon. Local Manager and Mrs. O C Koch with Mrs. Vena Wilson Miss Ruth Pools Wilson Murdock reported a very nice time, largely sheltered from the day’s strong winds sweeping the valley and mountains.
County librarians attend the 26th annual Utah Library Association convention held in St. George. Attendees include notable figures such as Meg Gutzen Else Hales Beaver Krarin Marie Mathews and others, gathering at Bryce Park to enjoy the event.
The local Parent Teacher Association holds its meeting and social at the high school Monday September 27. Aiming for a busy year, the program features community singing, short talks by Principal E. Ke Moody and others, plus songs and a dance. Refreshments will be served and committees list roles for the coming year.
The 1937 Utah state fair opens September 25 and runs eight days through October 2. Manager Ernest S. Holmes says the program will offer outstanding entertainment, with the annual horse show combined with a rodeo for maximum show appeal.
