Local notes cover Richfield football history eight years without a game and a Friday night test against Cedar City Redmen in Milford at 8 p.m. Highlights include community events, PTA plans, and a Blood Center update praising Milford organizers and urging renewed donor drive effort.
Milford has been chosen for the state Odd Fellows gathering, the Milford lodge hosting the State 100 F and Rebecca Caravan on February 15. R. H. Ruth, in charge, says Milford, ranked No 7 in the state among Odd Fellow lodges, aims to showcase the town with an entertaining caravan program for members and friends, including cats.
The monthly Civil Defense meeting will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday Sept 29 in St Bridget's recreation hall. A business meeting will precede two films Time of Disaster and The Waking Point. The public and Civil Defense members are invited to attend.
Clarence A. Kirkham Beav er County savings bond chair Tar met with national and state officials in Salt Lake City to plan a county by county push to hit year end bond quotas. National director Earl O. Shreve noted the nation is 12 percent ahead in sales with 339.4 billion in E and H bonds held by 45 million people guiding a drive to increase personal security through bonds. Frederick P. Champ urged each man to form a local committee to carry the program, while others spoke on support from banks and trust companies. Kirkham said a community wide drive is hoped to raise an extra 4,963 a month for the rest of the year to reach Beaver County’s quota and urged buying savings bonds at banks or post offices.
The Beaver County PIA organizations will meet in convention at Minersville at 3 p.m. on September 29. Regional director Mrs Alta Hickman will be present and parents teachers room mothers and other school patrons are urged to attend.
Milford students will see a giant four foot dial unit in assemblies at Milford High and Milford Grade schools on Wednesday September 28. The Mountain States Telephone Co. will teach proper use of the new dial telephones as part of a broader education program with roadside home visits and direct calls to subscribers in Milford. The dial system is scheduled to go into operation at one minute past midnight Saturday October 1.
A daughter was born September 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Slinkerd. Velma McAfee of Payson was admitted September 15 for pneumonia treatment. Mrs. Maurine Miller had surgery on September 15. Mrs. Lucille Belliston had surgery on September 16. Joan Ashworth of Beaver underwent surgery on September 17. Mrs. Rachel Neeley was admitted September 20 for observation.
George Wagner of Arcadia California visited his school friend Bob Slinkerd for a few days. Mr and Mrs LaVere Carter have moved to Salt Lake City where Mr Carter will attend the University of Utah.
Milford's Boy Scouts will stage their annual Circus and Carnival in Library park on Saturday September 24 Proceeds help finance the Boy Scout program through the year featuring cats hot dogs and chili hot chocolate and a variety of salads A shooting gallery and dart game and other fun entertainment booths operate from 5 p.m Field events start at 7 p.m according to LaMar Grimshaw.
Utah Department of Fish and Game reports an average or greater pheasant population for the 1955 season based on August brood counts. Brood totals average 5.41 young birds per brood, up from 4.12 in 1954, signaling a likely average harvest. Open season begins November 11 with regulations decided at the September commission meeting. Deer elk tagging rules urge immediate tagging at kill, to be placed on the rear leg hock joint.
Supt. Pearce outlines Beaver County regional meeting for the White House Conference on Education with six study areas including school goals organization efficiency building needs teacher supply and funding. Representatives from six areas plan to prepare county recommendations for the state conference and ultimately the national meeting.
The Jefferson Mercantile Company celebrates its 50th anniversary in Milford Utah with a big Saturday sale and more than 1200 patrons. Guests included A R Hamilton Maurice Warshaw and Sheman Lloyd. The store traces back to 1905 and a 1911 fire that destroyed the feed lot and caused major losses.
Milford BPW Club schedules Charter Night during National BPW Week. State BPW president to present the charter, with tribute to Mrs. Yena Wilson for a long Milford business career. Charter banquet at the Methodist Church precedes the presentation. Beaver B and W Club sponsors attend, with state chairman Miss Anna Stark also present.
Mayor R. L. Kizer of Milford Utah designates the week from September 25 to October 1 as National Business Women's Week. The proclamation cites the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs Inc. and the Milford BPW Club for contributing to business, industry, and civic progress and urges local business leaders to observe the observance.
An open house on Sept 7 honored the 111th birthday of Mrs Edith Osborn at the home of Mrs Sami Cline. Daughters Mrs Clarence Grimshaw and Mrs Ray Mills aided with entertainment as about forty guests visited.
Mr and Mrs Paul Taylor and their two children are living here currently. Mrs Taylor is a daughter of Mrs Clinton Myers.
