Fourteen people traveled by auto to the east side of the county last Sunday for the Union Pacific Clerks annual picnic. The site was Beaver Canyon with two young turkeys cooked over coals in Dutch ovens as the centerpiece. The group returned to Milford in a caravan of five cars after a perfect day.
Mike Poggie Nichols came back to Salt Lake City last week after spending most of the summer here on vacation.
Lewis Stewart of Milford, a miner, was caught speeding Monday night and paid ten dollars to the town for relief. Judge Nichols presided Tuesday. A trial schedule was postponed due to the county attorney's death. More speeding cases expected as Main Street remains a nighttime speedway. Local officers vow to prosecute offenders who persist in unlawful speeding.
A. G. Nebeker, longtime mining developer in Beaver County, is placed in charge of the Sheldon Mining Company's Walker, Arizona property. He will oversee 100 workers and a 150 ton daily ore output at the site with a mill and adjacent operations. The company recently bought two mines and a smelter, moved the manager, and Nebeker received a generous salary and a modern home.
Isabel Yardley of Beaver avoided appendicitis operation this September. Minersville residents Melka Jameson May Stoddard and Elaine Stoddard had tonsil or arm injuries and operations around Sept. 6 to 7. Milford staff Winslow Banks and Carol Dalton received tonsil removals and hospital care. Horn Silver Mine worker Russell Mackey underwent tonsil surgery on Sept. 7. The Sherwood children—Elizabeth Omar Kenneth Bobbie—had tonsil removals on Sept. 1. Louise White of Nada recovered from a severe skull fracture after arrival Sept. 15. Mrs RT Knox of Las Vegas gave birth Sept. 16. Miss Mildred Killam had a tonsil operation on Sept. 17. A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Les Carter. mother and child thriving.
Lions Club held a Wednesday noon meeting at Milford Cafe with reports on sidewalk progress at Mulline and Wheeler, county fair plans, and a noted exhibit praised by Dean Tiler. The Boys Calf Club showed strong signs of growth as members pursue training in Ogden, funded by the club savings.
A Milford Ward group from Mittord traveled to St George on Monday for Temple rites. Participants included Mr and Mrs W E Bowman and children Mr and Mrs Lorin Robinson Mrs Raymond Taylor and Mr Reuben Jones making up the temple trip party.
Meetings of the Young People’s Mutuals began at the L D S church this Tuesday with a social. A ceremony featuring a symbolic marriage acted out by the groups marked the union of the young men and women’s organizations. A strong winter literary program is planned, including plays. The Young Women’s Association has formed with Mrs. Willard Nichols as president. The Young Men’s Mutuals aim to organize soon. Joint meetings of the two groups are planned for about a week.
Mr and Mrs G Delgardo and their son are due back in Milford next month from Zion Park where Mr Delgardo has led the U P dining department for the tourist season.
Mrs and Mid William Catonan guided the marriage of their daughter Mangrot to Carl Albert Rohn of Milford. The ceremony occurred August 16 at Cedar City Union Presbyterian Church with Rev H J Reentama officiating. The couple will reside in Milford after the ceremony. Mr and Mrs Chis Adderly of Bingham visited relatives Herbert Njolola and enjoyed a trip to Puter's Lake.
Milford grade and high schools settle into routine enrollment at 187 students about fifteen more than last year. Period changes were adjusted for a few days until organization was set, with classes soon meeting to plan civics. Outdoor activities began, eight or ten football practices held, about fifteen candidates attended daily, and athletic manager Melvin Heslington says game schedules for fall are being prepared.

Mullineami Wheeler, a Salt Lake City firm, bid ten thousand five hundred seventy five dollars for a city sidewalk job. Work began Wednesday with a crew of about 27. The need to hire labor out of town delayed completion, and John Allard will assist as deputy inspector.
William Haine will star in a three night run at the Victory Theater starting Sunday in an adaptation titled Alias Jimmy Valettiog. Leila Hyams Marl Dror Long Barrymore and Tully Marshall are listed among the cast with Jack Copway credited for wire service material and A P Younger for adaptation.
The Cove Port cut-off road linking Milford Valley with the Arrowhead Trail is reported in the best shape in memory. Workers completed substantial upper section repairs and mortar work, with estimates of crevices not being severe. Mrs. Vona Wilson takes a vacation from Telluride Power Company duties. Mrs. Max Root fills in during her absence.
Grain threshing has been going on at fall blast on the flats this week with oats and wheat bent threshed and yields turning out more than fair. Seed threshing will begin next week as farmers of South Milford unite in a community effort to speed the work. Mrs Charles Singleton visited Salt Lake Monday and Lorin Osborn made a business trip to Salt Lake City Thursday.
The Odd Fellows lodge will sponsor a big public dance this Wednesday evening October 2 at Arion Hall. Leroy Luken and Wayne Righards head the committee handling arrangements and are exerting effort to make the event outstanding.
Mies Paine Carlton daughter of Aly and Mrs Carlton, late Milford now Beaver, writes her father and mother of a disastrous fire in Munusi Porto Rico. Carlton, nine years through missionary work, had a well furnished home lost with personal possessions. She was visiting at the time and will likely visit her parents after a delay.
Jack Padjan the Hollywoood actor arrived Wednesday to start building a home on a six place ranch south of Beaver near the Arrowhead Trail. Two carloads of equipment and lumber came from California as about twenty professionals plan a tour of inspection. Padjan aims to boost Beaver County real estate and may attract California friends to invest. polo ponies will be shipped to California.
Ares Chas. Kelly opens a remodeled and extended business establishment. Interior work remains but the owner plans laundry work and soon a collected delivery service. The updated storefront attracts passersby and impressed inspectors with the renewed exterior and interior.
Mr and Mrs Clifton Reese and their daughter visited Mr and Mrs W A Reeve. Funeral services were held for Mrs Eliza Law Beaver. Miss Margaret McAulay returned from Salt Lake City after visiting her mother and wife Mrs Thomas McAulay. Friends mourn the death of Mrs Chas Barton of Salt Lake City. Beaver residents Thaddy Baldwin and family visited Loyal Baldwin. Johnsons returned from Salt Lake City after summer with kin. Joseph Johnson and Dave Pearce of Beaver were in town. J T Evans learned his sister in law Mrs Eliza Stephens of Cedar City died suddenly and attended the funeral. Jasper Puffer family moved to Adamsville from Aberdare ranch for easier winter school.

County attorney Derive A Muntock of Beaver County dies in Ogden’s Dee Hospital after months of poor health. He was 63, native to Utah, and longtime Beaver County resident. Survived by wife Cinda R Rebinean and four children Abe John R Ray, with a Milford brother Jos R senior. Funeral arrangements and local tributes follow.
Ernest P. Jones arrived from American Falls to handle linotyping and printing at the Milford News. He replaced D A Wixom of Salt Lake City who worked briefly here. The shop will soon return to its former routine after adjustments.
The Carter family drove to Beaver Canyon last Sunday and enjoyed a picnic dinner along the river. Ray Casterline returned to Twestay from Cedar City where he has been doing work for the U P.
Improvements at the U P shops included re bricking the heating plants with about ten thousand stellars spent. The work was contracted by Union Pacific and ten to twelve bricklayers were employed for the project.
Mrs G C Cuddy spent a few days last week in Cedar City with Engi eer Cuddy. Mrs Dowgins Murphy of Luna was a Milford visitor this week. Engr Wm Dawson is back to work after spending several days in Salt Lake. Miss Wanda James and Mrs Katharine Lenis are visiting In Salt Lake this week. Mrs Leo McVay and Mrs Chas Singleton are visitors in Salt Lake. Mr and Mrs Ross Smith of Salt Lake visited friends in Milfont last week. Mr Smith was formerly employed In the shops here.
